Our SIXTIES FANTASIES exhibition will also present, starting in October, several new paintings by Jean-Claude Bossel, which were not yet ready during the 2023–2024 exhibition and are currently being completed in his Preverenges studio showroom.

These include a series of twelve paintings entitled REQUIEM FOR SIXTIES, as well as a triptych entitled SIXTIES FANTASIES, now in production (see image).

These works, signed “JB,” will be attributed to a fictional painter, Jean-Baptiste Nilkop, who is said to have painted them in the 1980s and exhibited them in Paris at a private exhibition organized by an industrial patron in honor of Serge Gainsbourg, for his sixtieth birthday in April 1988.

This context provides the overarching title of this artistic production, inspired by the intertwined loves of four major Sixties figures: Swiss-German industrialist Gunther Sachs, French actress and global icon Brigitte Bardot, French singer Serge Gainsbourg, and British actress Jane Birkin.

Jean-Baptiste Nilkop is said to have been a very close friend of Gainsbourg since the mid-1950s, while beginning his own career as a painter with a singular body of work featuring abstract paintings filled with small holes (in French: “des p’tits trous”)

Further information regarding the SIXTIES FANTASIES exhibition will soon be available on this website.
